Why drivers bring transmissions to us
A transmission is the most expensive part of the car to replace, and the easiest one to be oversold on. Our rule is simple: diagnose first, quote in writing, and recommend the smallest job that actually fixes it.
Transmission questions, answered straight
Do I need a new transmission?
Most transmission complaints do not end in a replacement. Low or burnt fluid, a failed solenoid, a leaking seal or a worn clutch pack each show up as slipping or rough shifting, and each is a smaller job than a new unit. We diagnose first and only recommend replacement when the diagnosis supports it.
What is the difference between repair, rebuild and replace?
A repair fixes the one part that failed and leaves the rest alone. A rebuild takes the unit apart and renews the wear parts. A replacement fits a complete remanufactured or used unit. Which one makes sense depends on what we find, the age of the vehicle and what you want to spend; we lay the options out before any work starts.
Can I keep driving while it slips?
We do not recommend it. Slipping clutches generate heat and shed material into the fluid, and both make a small job bigger. Call us and describe what the car is doing.
How long does transmission work take?
Diagnosis happens on the first visit. A repair or replacement depends on parts availability for your make, and we give you the timeline together with the quote.
